Now through the end of December, any single donation to Matter News will be doubled, while new monthly memberships will be matched 12 times (up to $1,000).

The campaign, dubbed NewsMatch, is the largest collaborative fundraiser for nonprofit news in the U.S., benefiting members of the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN). Since 2016, the campaign has raised more than $223 million to fund emerging newsrooms and support independent media. This year, members are eligible to receive up to $15,000 in matching grants.
The campaign coincides with an ongoing revamp of Matter News, announced last week by incoming editor Andy Downing. To help fund editorial operations into 2023, we've set an ambitious goal to raise $30,000 by the end of December.
Obviously, the news business continues to exist in a period of uncertainty, with corporate cuts forcing many from the profession and leaving increased gaps in community coverage. While not without its own challenges, the community-supported nonprofit model feels like one with potential to not just survive, but to thrive.
