We kicked off our 2022 NewsMatch campaign with an ambitious goal: raise $30,000 by Dec. 31.
And thanks to you, our community, we did it!
In doing so, we have unlocked $18,000 in matching funds and bonuses. This money, combined with additional monthly income from new members – more than 100 of you since Nov. 1 – now allows us to enter 2023 with the funding in place to publish for the entire calendar year.
A massive thank you to everyone who signed up as a new monthly member, made a one-time donation or even just shared word of our campaign.
We also want to extend extra gratitude to our Local Match partners: The Johnstone Fund for New Music, Spacebar and Columbus Arts Marketing Association. We wouldn't have hit our goal without the support of these organizations.
Of course, if you were planning on making a donation, it's not too late. The campaign will continue through Dec. 31 and all of funds raised will go directly toward our future publishing efforts.
Now that we have reached our goal, we also want to remind you that we have a plan in place that we believe can help Matter News reach sustainability.
To start with, I will now be locked in place as the editor for the entirety of 2023. We will also be hiring a part-time fellow for the full year to focus on large donor fundraising and sponsorships.
With this structure in place, we will be able to publish daily, covering community issues and Columbus' rich cultural scene, while also continuing to build the types of relationships we need to flourish. I have big plans for Matter moving forward, and as our membership numbers continue to grow, I'm confident we can evolve into the type of news outlet our city needs and deserves.
So, again, thank you all for your support.
And bring on 2023.
